Beauty subscription boxes first exploded onto the scene with an outlandish amount of hype, with more and more being created to add to that hype. Nowadays it has calmed down, but there are definitely more popular ones than others. Beauty sub boxes are undeniably on a whole different level and the amount of them out there at the moment, along with new ones that keep popping up, can be a major hit/miss. It becomes a bit tiring to be bombarded by so many and given false hope, and especially when your expectations continue to be not met. I've been at my wits end with sub boxes, most recently cancelling my Sephora Play! subscription and this past year ending my Birchbox one. The concept of sub boxes is simple, so what's the problem? Is it the consumer or company? The expectations or execution? Does it come down to the products themselves vs personal taste? Whatever it is, when you've found the right sub box for you, everything just seems to click.

Well, I can say for certain... things have definitely clicked for me. I can owe that all to Mintd Box, a UK luxury subscription box service that specializes in high-end skincare, makeup, and haircare products from a variety of exceptional and respected brands. Offering a subscription plan of your choosing, you are generously given 4-5 full sized beauty products in every box. Yep, you heard me right... FULL SIZED. Mintd only offers full sized and travel sized products, no more silly little samples! Mintd's London beauty team makes sure to choose products that are both globally in trend and also tailored to your personal preference by analyzing your Mintd Box beauty profile that you create when you sign up. Each monthly box has its own theme and is curated so that you are spending less but getting much more out of it. Mintd takes products from a multitude of stores like Harrods, Space NK, Selfridges, etc, to name a few, so you are getting some great brands to try in your monthly box and at a great size too! The products are packaged in a luxurious white box and wrapped so beautifully, tucked together inside and precision is used to make sure nothing is damaged in shipping or that presentation is anything less than classy and sophisticated. Even before seeing the products Mintd Box impresses.

I was kindly approached by Mintd's marketing rep. through e-mail and given the opportunity to try out their August box, themed "Explore," and had it delivered to me early this month. This was my first time being contacted about a subscription box and I was very excited knowing that it was for luxury products, since I really hold the 'quality over quantity' rule when it comes to beauty (especially for skincare!). I spent about 45 minutes talking on the phone to the lovely Cheryl last month, who took precious time out of her night in the UK to call me on the West Coast in Southern California in the mid-afternoon. I really was so impressed with that and had such a nice time talking with her, and I understood so well afterwards how special Mintd Box really is.
Mintd Box's aim as a company truly speaks to me on a personally level:
At Mintd box we aim to inspire & encourage women from all walks of life to own their presence, reveal their inner beauty through experimentation and discovery of new luxury beauty brands. We believe that every women deserves to feel confident and in control of her day.
One thing I really treasure as a person, and also as a consumer, is putting importance on supporting other women (regardless of race, sexuality, religion, etc) and being a positive force for others, if possible. When I see that a brand also makes that important too, it makes me want to support them back as well. I think it's easy for other people to brush off and look down on beauty as vain indulgence and superficiality, but confidence and self-esteem are POWERFUL. Feeling beautiful, loving yourself, being happy, and enjoying your life gives you strength and the reigns of control. If a brand can put their customers' interests in the focus and truly at heart with full authenticity, then it has all of my support.

As I said above, August's box is themed "Explore," and I really think that's a great way to describe the products included as they really provide a great mix of things! The "Explore" Box allows uncountable relaxing and de-stressing full body pampering sessions by using quality brands stocked in Alkaya, Selfridges, Space NK, and Anne Semonin. The "Explore" Box for the UK has 5 full sized items and for the rest of the world has 4 full sized + 2 travel sized items (which is what I have here).

The value of this month's box is £110.50 ($143.49)! Compared to the £65 ($84.40) you pay monthly/bi-monthly, you have already saved £45.50 ($59.08). Not bad, huh? Now let's see the products...

 Ameliorate Skin Smoothing Body Polish

Full Sized | 150ml/5 oz. | £19.50/$26.91 | (Buy here)

Ameliorate Skin Smoothing Body Polish uses non-scratch bamboo micro-spheres to remove dead skin cells to refine skin texture, along with naturally exfoliating Lactic Acid to encourage cell renewal. The Body Polish uses the Lactic Acid and bamboo micro-spheres exfoliation to get smoothe, radiant, and much healthier skin. The Lactic Acid breaks the intercellular bonds between dead skin cells, allowing easier shedding of these cells by exfoliation and enabling the now unchained healthy new ones beneath in the dermis to grow. The micro-dermabrasion granules are super small as you can see in my photo, and mixed in with moisturizing ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil, and cocoa butter creates a creamy but concentrated exfoliation. This product specifically works great for those with super dry skin or those suffering from any possible skin condition that needs proper exfoliation. I've used it 1-2 times a week consistently and it's just been really so lovely, I suffer from some skin conditions on my arms specifically so it's been super helpful! I have never used this brand before as this is not very accessible to get here in the USA, but I'm really wanting to try more from it.

Anne Semonin The Daily Musts

Mini Coffret | 4x10g or 0.35 oz/per one | £33/$42.76 | (Buy here)

Anne Semonin The Daily Musts are four masks to "supply the cells with the nutrients they need to maintain, regain or optimize the balance of the skin and guard against premature aging." These four little masks are so great, I just have to say. I had never heard of Anne Semonin (again, thanks to Mintd Box I'm learning about new luxury brands!) but from using these masks, and also the milk and toner, I've found that my skin loves their products. From what I understand from their website, they are a French luxury skincare brand (est. 1985) that focuses on using essential oils, minerals, and marine active ingredients to create very effective skincare to enhance skin's radiance and vitality, and reverse signs of aging. They use highly concentrated active ingredients that can penetrate into the deepest layers of skin, "helping to detoxify and regenerate rapidly." Not only does their skincare philosophy and ingredients sound outstanding, but they also say they don't test on animals and use recyclable packaging. This is a brand that not only cares about their customers, but also the greater good.

  • Exfoliating Mask: formulated with exfoliating seaweed, detoxifying extracts of rosemary, sage, yarrow, and white nettle, and absorbent kaolin. This mask gently removes surface dead cells, refines skin texture, and enhances the radiance of the complexion. (here)
  • Gel Mask: formulated with sea water containing a high concentration of marine agents (selenium, calcium, magnesium, iodine, phosphorus), and enriched with essential oils (lavender, cypress, ylang ylang, palmarosa). This mask has a refreshing gel texture that revitalizes skin and boosts its radiance. (here)
  • Cream Mask: formulated with moisturizing and anti-free radical seaweed, and enriched with soothing kaolin, this mask has a lusciously creamy texture that nourishes the skin, soothes delicate complexions, and guards against visible signs of aging. (here)
  • Mineral Mask: formulated with sea cabbage, rich in mineral salts and trace elements, and extracts of horsetail with remineralizing properties. It is also enriched with essential oils of lemon, hop, pine leaves and rosemary, which detoxify, tighten the pores, and rebalance the skin. (here)

Out of all of them, the clear favorites are the Exfoliating Mask and Mineral Mask. I have yet to try the Gel or Cream mask, I'm waiting for a day when it's not as hot and I won't be as oily (and also possibly on a day I could be on the dry/sensitive side, would be nice to see how they do to help that). My oily skin always does well with masks, it's a no brainer for me really, but I was so excited about trying all four of these especially with all the botanical ingredients and more. I for sure will be checking out more products from this brand, especially as I respect so much what they are doing and their vision as a whole.

Kahina Giving Beauty Fez Body Serum

Full Sized | 30 ml/1 oz. | £32/$32 | (Buy here)

Kahina Giving Beauty is a brand that has been on my mind for ages to get. I was so ecstatic to hear that one of their products would be in the Mintd Box for August! I really respect their commitment to "preserving, protecting, and enhancing the resources (natural, human, cultural)" behind their brand and products, as that's such an important thing to do; instead of appropriating it themselves, they not only give credit where due but put direct attention on the women and the cultural/geographical source. I had always wanted to know what their package art design was and I'm really so touched to learn how it came to be. Not to mention, they are Leaping Bunny certified cruelty-free. They really make it an importance for being environmentally responsible (they use recyclables for their packaging), as well as making sure not to include any harmful ingredients. Overall, Kahina wins me over on this alone.

The Fez Body Serum is formulated with high concentrations of natural and certified organic Moroccan argan oil, which works to improve elasticity while soothing redness and evening out skin texture. Watermelon, sunflower, olive and coconut oils help to deeply moisturize and improve absorption of the serum into the skin, allowing the body oil to do its work with the abundance of Vitamin E further replenishing and restoring moisture. It's also infused with a blend of distilled essential oils, creating an aromatherapeutic experience of rose, orange blossoms, citrus notes, patchouli, sandalwood, ylang ylang, with hints of cumin and clove to relieve stress and calm nerves. This specific product from Kahina is also vegan and gluten-free. Now, I know this is specifically for the body but I actually have used this for my face a few times! From looking at the ingredient list, which is just a beauty, for myself I did not see any irritants or anything that could possibly have my skin act up (but it is a bit thick, so there's that!). If I could I would probably jump into a pool of this stuff, it smells so heavenly and spreads so nicely over the skin. I've used it after I've gotten out of the shower and it's really helped me calm down on days where my stress levels are just off the charts. This is the only Kahina product that I own and I just know that I will be getting some more soon. I'm hooked!

Anne Semonin Botanical Milk & Toner

Travel Sized | 40ml/1.35 oz. | Milk: £33/$42.76 | Toner: £37/$47.95 | (Buy Milk) (Buy Toner)

The second batch of Anne Semonin products included in this month's box are the Botanical Milk and Toner, which are both just such a treat to use. Both have such a nice scent to them and I can definitely smell the added fragrance as it's quite strong if you're using a lot of product but it doesn't bother me one bit.

Botanical Milk Makeup Cleanser is a gentle and light cleanser formulated with seaweed and hazelnut oil that effectively removes all impurities and makeup, while also softening, re-hydrating, and protecting the skin. As it's suitable for all skin types, the light consistency used in the morning/night in small amounts allows preparation for the next steps in your routine without feeling heavy. It truly is very light weight and emulsifies quite well, it's more on the liquid-y side and you really only need the smallest amount because of that. The second ingredient in the product is Coco-Caprylate/Caprate, which is a non-greasy and naturally derived skin conditioning emollient that comes from coconut oil (it is an ester of coconut fatty alcohol/caprylic acid/capric acid), and provides the softness that you feel after using the Milk Cleanser. This has been lovely to use in the mornings and the sweet fragrance is so nice to wake up to.

Botanical Toner gently tones, soothes, and rebalances the skin with its formulation of witch hazel (anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial astringent) and deionized water, and acts as a last step toner after cleansing to prepare for the next steps of the routine. This toner is definitely a worker, that's for sure. I love products with witch hazel, it's probably one of my favorite ingredients along with niancinamide, as my oily skin just enjoys the thorough deep cleansing and bringing my skin back to a stabilized center (very squeaky clean!). I found that it didn't give me any substantial hydration or enough moisture for what I need on a daily basis (compared to what I'm used to, anyway), so I have only used this on days where I don't do my full Korean skincare routine. Seeing as witch hazel does wonders for my oily skin and troubled spots, I'm looking forward to seeing how it does for clearing up places where I've happened to have some "little friends" come say hello. I also would love to see how it does for my pores, too. I think that might be my real testing of it for these two things, but otherwise I do like how it feels and think it's a good toner as a preparation for other products in your routine. Mintd Box has found me another great product!

Ingredients (Toner): Aqua (water)/eau, Peg-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Dipropylene Glycol, Polysorbate 20, Peg/PPG-14/4 Dimethicone, Propylene Glycol, Chlorphenesin, Methylparaben, Parfum (Fragrance), Cetrimonium Bromide, Dipotassium Edta, Tromethamine, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Hexyl Cinnamal, Linalool, Citronellol, Hydroxycitronellal, Geraniol, Limonene

Smith & Cult Lip Lacquer in 'Now Kith'

Full sized | Toasted + Nude | £21/$27 | (Buy here)

Am I the only person who didn't know that Smith & Cult made lip glosses?! I have a very bad nervous habit with my nails so I don't paint them but I've always loved seeing other people's snaps of their S&C polishes and nails! Luckily I can at least enjoy this product from them and ohhhh yes, how I have enjoyed it so! 'Now Kith' Lip Lacquer is a beautiful warm nude shade, sometimes leaning very peach on my skin tone depending on the lighting, and has a high shine finish. It is infused with moisturizing goodness like plant-derived Portulaca Pilosa extract, and natural Coconut Essence to even texture and extended longevity. The Portulaca Pilosa adds the most lovely plumping affect to the lips, makes them look and feel so juicy! There are multiple skin-conditioning ingredients that come before it so I think it could have made the plumpness even more heightened with its effects. They also happen to be vegan, gluten, and paraben free. This gloss is perfect to wear over a lipstick, I actually prefer to do that instead of wearing gloss on their own since my original lip color is so pigmented and I dislike the color. I'm soooo in love with the packaging too, oh gosh. It's just too beautiful and so luxe! This is a gloss that you can just throw into your bag, quickly swipe on as you run out the door for a date, and you're all set! The non-sticky consistency is just perfect and adds to its simplicity. I'm so in love with this gloss, definitely rec!

May Contain/Peut Contenir (±): CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499 (Iron Oxides), CI 15850 (Red 6).

Mintd Box is a great high-quality subscription box service and truly has your best interests in mind, as well as sourcing some of the best skincare, makeup, and hair products. I know that you won't find this kind of subscription box here in the USA, or if you do it will not be under $100. Not only in counting up money-wise (remember you are getting $59.08 savings), but also presentation and quality Mintd Box really rises above all else. I know it may seem like a lot of money, especially for my American followers who must put it into conversion, but if you break down every product (as I have done in this post for you) it really ends up being worth your while. I don't want to make any decision for you, it's really all about personal preference and decision, but I'm highly impressed with Mintd Box and every single product I've tried in this month's box.

Personally I take great care when researching my beauty products and do not put just anything onto my skin or use just any makeup brands etc, because we only have one face and one body and we need to take care of it to our best ability (and as long as we are our healthiest). Mintd does the research for me in the time that I don't have to find new quality products, and also allows me to be able to try products that aren't readily available here in the USA. A subscription is also great for those who want to start to get into high-end brands, as Mintd Box includes both new and previously released products in their boxes, so you'll be getting exposure to all sorts. It's really a win/win in a lot of different ways, whether it's getting more product(s) than what you're actually paying for, getting generous 4-5 full sized products, having the opportunity to try a selection of high quality brand (both new and previously released products), etc, it goes on. I'm just noting the positives in my opinion but it really all depends on what you individually consider to be important.

Mintd Box also has multiple subscription plans so you don't feel boxed in, and customer service who will help you with whatever you need. Their subscription plans go from monthly/bi-monthly (£65), 3 months (£190.50), 6 months (£381), and 12 months (£762). They also can be easily cancelled if you contact CS and can be reactivated by you manually on your subscription plan in your account. You can always contact customer service here if you have any questions.

For those of you who have not yet subscribed, Mintd Box was nice enough to provide a non-affiliated coupon code for 10% off your first box when you sign up: 10OFF1STHH + subscribe here. The "Explore" Box will be available only until August 21st! After that, the September box + theme will start.

What do you think? Have you subscribed to Mintd Box? What's your favorite products in the "Explore" Box?
